Welcome to my new website!
I'm just starting out here with my online presence, so this site will likely begin as an experiment with what I'm wanting to share on here. This platform may serve many functions, some of which you may be interested in.
My primary intention with this site at the moment is to write articles and blog posts sharing what I've learned and what I'm currently learning about our natural world, and things we can do to support it, as a part of it.
Who am I?
I'm from Southern California, am a UCLA graduate, and have spent most of the last five years living, working, and exploring in beautiful natural places mostly in the Western US, including Yosemite National Park, Lake Tahoe, and Washington State. In this time my connection with Nature has become the most important thing to me, and I am dedicating my life to being in its service however I can. I'm currently navigating what that looks like and what feels best for me, but I have to start somewhere. That's where this website comes in!
I'm no expert in anything I will share on here - I would like that to change! - but I want to share as I learn. Everything on here will be researched to the best of my ability, or will be based on personal experiences and observations. And everything on this site is intended to be interactive - if you have any questions or have anything to add or correct, please do! I am completely open to feedback. I would simply like to share what I know, and to spark conversations, connections, and inspiration. This could also just serve as a jumping-off point for anyone interested in any topic I address to begin their own research.
My range of interests is extremely broad so I am not willing to confine myself to a "niche" on here, at least right now. I'm interested in things like permaculture, regenerative agriculture, holistic management, native plants and ecosystems, mycology, fire mitigation in the West, Indigenous cultures and life-ways, and much, much more. And I'm teaching myself everything I can.
I've taken some action recently in entering meaningful Earth-supporting work with gusto, including taking a permaculture design course, attending a regenerative ranching workshop, touring many farms, community gardens, and eco-villages, taking a soil health course, attending classes on California native ecology, enrolling in a mushroom cultivation course this upcoming year, and volunteering at local ecological projects wherever possible. I'm in a phase of very intense learning and am trying to gain as much hands-on experience as I can in these topics and more, and rather than hoard what I'm learning, I want to share with you all as I go along. I would rather be imperfect in what I share than not share anything at all.
This will be the primary purpose of this website. In addition to this, I'm a regular human with thoughts and feelings about much more than these topics, and I may experiment with using this site as a personal blog as well - though that may become an independent project on its own. I have a lot to share!
If you've read this far, I want to personally thank you, so much, for taking the time. Thank you for checking out my website, and I hope you'll follow along as I start share more!
Sincerely,
Shane Emeis
